What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the act of looking inward, being fully present, becoming aware of your feelings and thoughts, and then acknowledging and accepting them in a gentle and nurturing away.
How does Journaling help?
In an article by the University of Rochester Medical Center, some of the benefits of journaling for emotional wellness are:
-
Manage anxiety
-
Reduce stress
-
Cope with depression
I believe that journaling can also boost creativity and productivity in a day and gives you free space in your life to check in with yourself, ultimately it’s a great tool for self-care.
Journaling Prompts:
- What inspires me to think about the future?
- What made me smile today/yesterday?
- How am I feeling emotionally today?
- Where is my safe place?
- What form of self-care will I practice today?
- What about today is difficult and how will I overcome it?
- When things get hard, what’s the first thing I do and how do I feel about it?
- Who is someone I can truly confide in?
- What makes me extremely uncomfortable?
- Write myself a love letter.
- Write yourself a letter that I will open again in 5 years.
- Write a letter to someone that I love and either give it to them or don’t.
- What element (Earth, Air, Fire or Water) do I identify with most?
- How did or will I express happiness, love and gratefulness today?
- List one word that speaks to me today.
- Write what one word describes me as a person the most.
- What are I envious of and why?
- How can I show love to myself today?
- What is my favorite physical feature in myself and why?
- What is my favorite scent and what about it feels like me?
Take these prompts and spend some time asking yourself questions. You might be surprised to find that bonding with yourself is just as important as bonding with others. Don’t forget to love yourself and give yourself time to be you.
